Organizers Try to Stop Kathrine Switzer at Boston Marathon
Sometimes we have to look back at our past to truly grasp how far we have come! Here is a photo of American author and TV commentator, Kathrine Switzer, the first woman to ever finish the Boston marathon in 1967. And below, you see the organizers of the marathon trying to attack her and prevent her from finishing the race. Luckily fellow runners protected her.
She was told that due to their fragile nature, women cannot run the Boston marathon. She faced humiliation, and mockery. Despite it all, she decided to prove naysayers wrong. Kathrine is an inspiration to all of us who are told we cannot accomplish our dreams, or that we do not have what it takes.
Kathrine has written several books about her experience as a marathon runner. We encourage you all to read them, if you can.
