Soccer (Football) superstar Lionel Messi, often criticized for not playing as well for his country, Argentina, as he does for Barcelona, silenced the critics yesterday as he netted his 55th goal for Argentina, making him the country’s all-time highest goal scorer. It’s a particularly notable achievement considering that he often does not play as a forward for Argentina, but a midfielder.

And he is still 28 years old (turning 29 in a couple of days – Happy Birthday!) meaning that he has plenty of opportunity in the next 5 years to score more goals for Argentina and establish himself, potentially, as one of the highest scoring international players.

As a fun fact, did you know that the all-time highest international association goal scorer is Ali Daei, from Iran, who scored 25 more goals than the second-ranking player, Ferenc Puskás of Hungary. See the complete list here.

Here is a compilation of all of Messi’s 55 goals for Argentina to date. Which is the most memorable for you?
